There's a great tool called Gmaps Pedometer that works with Google's mapping system to let you map your exact route in miles. After you've created a route, you can create a tinyurl that you can use to retrieve the route. You can even turn on a calorie counter to see approximately how many calories you'll burn covering the specified distance!
Directions to these locations are primarily from West Los Angeles. If you're coming from a different area, use the "SHOW ME" links to get a map and your own set of directions.
At the corner of Ocean Park and 26th, this is a nice starting spot in Santa Monica.
Corner of Veteran & Sunset (the northwest corner of the campus). Starting at 6:00pm weeknights, parking is free along Veteran.
Corner of San Vicente & Ocean Blvd. Lots of parking up and down both streets. Bathrooms are available! A beautiful place to run evenings after work, even during winter months (the park is lit).
From the San Fernando Valley or the Westside:
- Take the 405 North
- Take the 101 (Ventura) Freeway East/South
- Stay to the left and take the 134 East.
- Exit at Victory Blvd. (right), then make a quick left onto Zoo Dr.
- Follow Zoo Dr., which turns into Crystal Springs Dr.
- Follow signs all the way to the ranger station, which will be on your left
- Take Sepulveda North (from the Westside)
- Left on Mountaingate (a bit south of Mulholland Dr.)
- Go all the way to the top, where it makes a "T" with Canyonback
- Turn right and go toward the dead end
- Trailhead is on the left, just past the tennis courts
From the Westside or San Fernando Valley
- Take the 101 East to the 134
- Exit Colorado / Linda Vista exit (right)
- Make a quick left onto Linda Vista
- About 200 yards down, take the branch to the right (through the tunnel)
- Stay on Linda Vista, watching for a sign that says "Seco"
- Make a right down that street
- Look for the "Lot K" sign and park nearby
From West Los Angeles:
- Take the 405 North
- Exit Burbank Blvd. (left)
- Go past Woodley
- Go past Hayvenhurst
- Turn right into 2nd driveway past Hayvenhurst.
This is a long, narrow parking lot in front of the Sepulveda Basin Golf Course. If the lot is full, continue past the clubhouse, park in the West lot, and walk back over. The SFV team meets at the East end of the parking lot.
From the 405 and Sunset:
- Take Sunset Blvd. west
- Take Mandeville Canyon north (right)
- Take N. Westridge Rd. (left, first stop sign)
- Left on W. Bayliss Rd.
Go about 200 yds. on Bayliss and park. If you hit Queensferry Rd., you've gone too far, turn around and park a little ways back. The entrance is at the bottom of Queensferry Rd.
- Take the 405 North
- Take the 101 (Ventura) Freeway North
- Exit at Reseda, go south
- Go all the way to the top of Reseda.
If we do a trail run, we usually start at the top of Reseda. When you go up Reseda Blvd., you'll head south about 2-3 miles, all gradually uphill. You'll pass between two concrete barriers. The parking area is free is you park south (downhill) from the big white line painted across the street, or $3 if you park closer.
1410 3rd Street Promenade, Santa Monica
Occasionally, NIKE will sponsor group runs leading up to an event that they're sponsoring. Yankee Doodle's is on the 3rd St. Promenade. At these runs, they hand out vouchers for food, drink, and you have the option to try Nike shoes if you want. They also have raffles sometimes.
From the 405 and Sunset:
- Take Sunset Blvd. west
- Take Mandeville Canyon north (right)
- Take N. Westridge Rd. (left, first stop sign)
- Follow N. Westridge Rd. all the way to the top!
You'll know you're near the top when you see a stone gate with wrought-iron work. There is parking near the top, but pay attention to the signs on N. Westridge Rd. There is usually some parking on Cordelia, the last street on the right before the stone gate.
From the 405 and Sunset:
- Take Sunset Blvd. west
- Turn right on Will Rogers State Park Rd.
- Turn left on Villa View Dr. and park in the neighborhood
We meet at the corner of Will Rogers State Park Rd. and Villa View Dr. Don't park inside the park if this is for an evening run, as the park closes at dusk, and we need to make sure you can get your car out!
